Minnow

Since Vripack’s first Doggersbank hit the water in 1968, the concept has proven itself over and over again with proud owners taking their sturdy explorers to the outskirts of our world.

But, one Doggersbank in particular provided multiple owners several unique life experiences.

PREVIOUS OWNERS

Minnow was built in the Netherlands in 1986 and was christened Kathleen by her first American owner. Right after her launch she crossed the big pond and sailed from the Netherlands to the United States of America. After extensive use and having logged many miles, she was sold to her second owner who renamed her Sentimental Journey. This name represented the owner and his son’s trip down memory lane, which led them to the formal battlefields of WWII where the owner served during his younger years.

MINNOW

Her third and current owner bought Sentimental Journey in 2012. He renamed her Minnow and decided to revive her with the class she deserves by giving her a major refit. In order to achieve the highest standard they carefully selected a qualified team, among which the original architect studio Vripack.

The extensive refit took place on both sides of the ocean and all came together at a yard in San Diego California. As icing on the cake, the owner ordered a Dutch art piece from the renowned Delft blue artist company Tichelaar, who have also been working on projects displayed in MoMA-New York. The tile shows an image of the owner’s former sailing yacht and has been incorporated into the design of Minnow’s current bar section.

ONBOARD EXPERIENCE

After the refit was finished, the owner was so pleased with the end result that he asked Vripack to create a similar interior for one of his high end bag-stores on Hawaii. As extra gimmick the owner filmed the view onboard of Minnow and simulated it behind lookalike windows in his store. Providing the customers with a real ‘onboard-experience’ and the perception that both ship and shop rock!
